Runaway & Homeless Youth Shelter Program
The Runaway & Homeless Youth Shelter provides a safe, inclusive, supportive and secure environment for Suffolk County youth under the age of 18 who find themselves in crisis and need a haven. Shelter staff are able to meet the basic needs of this population while providing each youth with the support needed to reach individual goals.
Within the program, staff teaches life skills, offers workshops and provide tutoring. A main goal of the program is to teach youth to be as independent as possible, and assist them each in navigating the outside world and it’s systems successfully. Shelter staff work with youth to develop a safe and suitable discharge plan so that each youth leaves our care in a better situation then then when they arrived.
The Runaway & Homeless Shelter is a coed, short-term, seven bed facility. The Shelter provides a safe and therapeutic environment to assess the safety, medical, and treatment needs of youth while in residence. The program provides support services to all residents 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year, for up to 60 days.
