Out-Patient Substance Use Clinic

Hope For Youth’s Outpatient Substance Use Clinic is licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction
Services and Supports (OASAS). We specialize in treating children and adolescents who have a primary substance use disorder and/or those who have been significantly impacted by a family member’s use. Our
expert team consists of child and adolescent psychiatrists, licensed social workers, licensed mental health counselors, certified alcohol and substance use counselors, and certified recovery peer advocates.

The Family Service Center staff have extensive experience in working with youth and families involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. We provide both diagnostic assessments and ongoing treatment services to children in foster care, youth under probation department supervision and to the families of these youth. We are committed to educating adolescents and their families about the harmful effects of substance abuse and giving them the tools to live substance free and productive lives.

Our primary clinical focus is helping clients identify the damaging effects of substance abuse upon their own lives and the families. Adolescents learn how to navigate and map out their lives without the use of substance. Youth and families are treated with respect and are often able to find their inner voice and identify and build upon innate strengths. Many of our clients have gone on to attend college, armed services, and achieve gainful employment. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan and has the opportunity to participate in developing their treatment plan goals. Clients receive services from professionally trained and licensed or credentialed therapists in group and individual settings. Parents may participate in treatment through family therapy, giving them the knowledge necessary to help facilitate their child’s recovery.

Services:

Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) Provides in-home, community, and in-office services requiring at least weekly individual and family therapy, with the support of case management to assist the family in all of life’s domains.

Seven Challenges Uses group and individual modalities, in which staff and peers act as decision-making partners with adolescents to assist them in making informed, thoughtful decisions about their lives. Youth are encouraged to examine the issues in their lives and choose a specific issue to work on during each session. Adolescents consider all the factors in their lives and are provided helpful, supportive, and challenging feedback by not only their clinicians but also their peers throughout each session.

Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) Assists in preventing the effects that substance use, and trauma have on children ages 0-5. The goal is to enhance the relationship between the child and parent or guardian, by establishing a sense of trust, attachment, and security. With an infant and toddler, the parent is taught how their trauma impacts their child and works with the parent on how to protect and bond with their baby.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Engages the client and caretaker in assessment, psychoeducation, stress management, affect expression and modulation, coping skills, a trauma narrative, cognitive processing, and behavior management and training. The caregiver is involved in all aspects of treatment, assisting the client in feeling connected to others. Each component of TF-CBT requires homework and practice by the client and is reinforced by their caregiver. The therapist moves at the client’s pace and works with the client on thoroughly processing the complex traumas they have experienced.

Psychiatric Evaluations and Medication Management: services are available to all clients in our Outpatient Substance Use Clinic. Clients are provided a thorough psychiatric evaluation to provide a full history with diagnosis. If medication management is deemed appropriate and beneficial, they will be followed by our psychiatric staff on a monthly basis to ensure effectiveness of prescribed medications.

Peer Recovery Supports are facilitated by a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) who utilize their recovery expertise, professional training, and lived experience, to boost individuals’ engagement in treatment and commitment to recovery. CPRAs meet with clients both in the office and in the home/ community to help clients connect to community-based recovery supports consistent with treatment and recovery, provide non-clinical crisis support, and assist clients with education, awareness, and engagement in various modes of recovery and recovery services
