Family and friends of Sal Losicco will present Hope for Youth with brand new sporting equipment, board games and a $750 monetary donation to support the broad range of services Hope For Youth provides to Long Island’s most vulnerable youth. After careful selection, the family and friends of Sal Losicco selected Hope For Youth as its charity of choice in the hope that this act with inspire others to become involved and aware of the needs of youth in foster care. When asked why giveback, the family replied, “In our continued effort to honor and celebrate his life, this donation corresponds with his birthday and is a perfect fit as Sal would have related and supported Hope For Youth's cause and work.”
Sal Losicco, a native of Holbrook, was often referred to as the life of the party. He was known among his peers for his dynamic personality, humorous antics and epic parties. Sal even cajoled a group of 30 friends to join him in playing a lively game of Sing Star. He was passionate about cars, specifically sports models, and had hoped to work in some capacity with cars in his future. Unfortunately, Sal’s life was sadly cut short and he passed away in 2008.
During his teen years, Sal spent a few years in foster care. His family and friends recalled the challenges he experienced during this time. The goal is to spread awareness about the important role well managed foster care agencies provide for youth in crisis. Agencies like Hope For Youth serve as a beacon of hope as well as a source of comfort and stability for a young life during a traumatic period. When Dr. David Hegarty, Executive Director and CEO of Hope for Youth learned of the donation and the story behind the gift, he had this to say, “Hope For Youth is deeply moved and honored to be a part of such a wonderful act of love.”
June 11th would have been Sal’s 30th birthday. The family and friends of Sal Losicco and Hope For Youth will celebrate this very special gift and this very special life together at Hope For Youth’s headquarters, 201 Dixon Avenue, Amityville, on Wednesday June 27th at 6pm.
