We had a successful event at our Bi-Annual Cornucopia of Hope Gala. Long Island executive chef, wine expert and winner of the Zagat award of excellence, Tom Schaudel, hosted the event. It was a wonderful evening of dinner and extravagant desserts from Sweet Karma Desserts, D’s Delectable Delights, Marneycakes and Lisa Vivo Custom Cakes. Pastry chef and owner of Sweet Karma Desserts won the dessert competition and served a delicious pumpkin cake topped with marshmallow and bacon bits.

The event supported Hope For Youth's residential programs, foster care, preventive and out-patient services for children and their families. The first-ever Elizabeth Bass Golding personal achievement honor was awarded to Rohan Murphy, an accomplished entrepreneur, inspirational athlete, and motivational speaker. The ballroom was filled with watery eyes as Rohan shared how he lost his legs at birth and grew up feeling left out until he discovered his talent as an athlete in wrestling and accepted his disability as a gift. Now the young twenty-six year old motivates others, especially young people, to pursue their dreams regardless of health or personal conditions and to exercise and live a healthy life.

Following the award, Executive Director David J. Hegarty presented a video clip that displayed several HFY alumni and adoptive mother Debra Snell. The video was a true representation of the mission and positive change HFY has made, and is continuing to make, across Long Island.
